With a scientific name indicating it being from Laos and a common name referencing Vietnam, this Southeast Asian scorpion is widespread in the region. It is a large, glossy black scorpion found in tropical forest and adjacent fields where it hides by day beneath leaf litter, logs, rocks and sometimes in burrows dug into embankments. It is a popular pet species and thrives in a forest terrarium with moderately high humidity. It will feed on anything it can catch. Although very defensive, its large pincers can cause more pain than its sting.
